    “Headache 2 days before vacation and 2 weeks after!” We booked this house via Airbnb (and thank god we did and not thru their independent website). We got a call from the property manager 2 days before we were to arrive saying that the house needed some renovations (which you can read in the other reviews) and the contractors were going to come a week early but we would be UPGRADED to their villas on the beach (Old Man by the Sea Villas). It was ​8​ ​adults​ ​and​ ​my​ ​4​ ​month old​ ​infant in our party We never saw Casa Alistaire. In the villas, the toilet and showers were all outside, 2 villas did not lock, and 2 of the air conditioners did not work. Two of the outdoor bathrooms were could be easily accessed by the public restaurant on the property. And there was construction on the property, and with villas that did not lock we did not feel safe. We booked a house because we all wanted to stay together and with a 4 month old we needed to have access to a kitchen and indoor bathrooms to bathe her, it was so hot in the villa when we initially arrived that she was breathing heavy because the air conditioning did not work. That night went to have dinner to see if the ACs would work, maybe they had just been put on when we arrived & the rooms needed time to cool. This was not the case, the room was still extremely hot at 9pm. This is when we called Airbnb & told them the situation. Our 1st customer service rep told us they spoke to the host & he said "if we decided not to stay he would offer a refund and he would be there in the morning to speak to us." In the morning we went to the common area and asked if the host was coming by and one of the employees said she would contact him. After contacting him a second time, she passed us her phone and we spoke to the host (on speaker) so our entire party could hear. He was very gracious on the phone, and said he would give us a full refund and apologized that the house we unavailable. We told him, we’re understanding and we’ll pay for one nigh the night we stayed in the villas. He said thank you so much, and just let Airbnb know and the refund would be processed. As we were leaving, another employee came up to us and gave his apologies and said “we don’t allow children on this property, so we understand why it wouldn’t work”. I will say all his employees were great, kind, friendly and would attempt to address our problems. Back home I called Airbnb to follow up to make sure the refund was being processed. Airbnb let me know the host was unresponsive for days and she had made multiple attempts to reach him. 2 days later the host said he never offered a refund. So I now had to gather all the pictures and videos of the villas and the issues (outdoor bathroom, broken AC, non-locking doors and construction at 10PM) and submitted them to prove we did not stay in Casa Alistaire. A week later he offered only half our money (a little over 2k) back because of "our issues". I told Airbnb absolutely not, we want what he promised which was 4 days, the 4 days we didn't stay on his property. And we should get the refund because we didn't get the property we booked. Finally yesterday, exactly 2 weeks since we arrived back home Airbnb refunded us because Alistaire did not follow their policies and he was found in fault not us! We received a refund for the 4 days that we did not stay and 1/2 of the day we did stay for our issues. I can't imagine is we would've booked through his site - we would have been out of $4,000 because he did not want to provide the refund. Initially we did not plan on writing a review, we understand things happen and we couldn't stay at the house - we were fine moving to a hotel and just getting the refund promised. But after the experience with the owner and how he lied over and over we had to warn people. Casa Alistaire may be a great property (we never saw it, so would never know) but the owner does not pride himself on customer service, and will say anything just to get and keep his money.
